Grief is an emotion which is felt as a response to a loss. This loss can be anything, it can be your favorite pen or a pet or a loved one (obviously the degree of grief felt varies depending on the loss and your connection with it). With this loss, comes the sadness for it (grief) and the hope that that loss can be countered by getting a new thing or getting the old thing back.
